TERMS & CONDITIONS

TAKING CHICKS HOME

Due to the fragility of chicks – it is not recommended to bring our chicks home prior to them being 1 week old. This is to ensure that they are happy, healthy, and ready to roll. We will only release chicks under special circumstances such as giving a broody momma hen some chickadees, or providing a lone hatcher with some friends. These special occasions will be discussed and approved as they come up. Any chick that leaves our care prior to 1 week old will not be guaranteed by The Happy Homestead, but we will do our best to support you if any issues arise.

The Happy Homestead only guarantees 1 week old chicks for 24 hours. We take special care to provide you the healthiest, happiest chicks! Once they leave our hands – there are too many variables that can effect the livelihood of a chick, that we cannot be held responsible for.

Any Chicks that are older than 1 week, hold no guarantees. If you have questions about how to care for your chicks – please reach out, or visit our “New to Chickens?” page. I was brand new at chickens once too- and I had to learn, so we understand.

WAITLISTS

The Happy Homestead typically has waitlists, and depending on the breed – some of those waitlist can get pretty long. If we reach out to notify you that your chicks are available (typically facebook or email), and you do not respond within 24 hours – we reserve the right to sell those chicks or offer them to the next person in line. Those who do not respond within 24 hours will be removed from ALL waiting lists that they are on. With how long the waitlists typically are, this is only fair.

If you do respond- but cannot pick up the chicks within a 7 day period (or otherwise agreed upon date) we reserve the right to offer the chicks to the next person on the waitlist. However, you will not be removed from the waitlist, you will just be moved down the list for the next hatch. Please note: There may not be any more available hatches left due to wait times.

Please also understand that waitlists don’t guarantee we can hatch as many as you want. Because of this – we may reach out and notify you that we either cannot fulfill your order, or that we can only partially fulfill your order. We typically have very good hatch rates, but sometimes we have less than stellar hatches.

FIRST COME FIRST SERVE CHICKS (NO WAITLIST)

Don’t want to wait for chicks? DON’T FRET – we don’t open waitlist on every breed. There are many breeds we hatch that we do not and will not have a waitlist for. Those chicks will be sold FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. Please note : this is not first to message, this means first to be able to come pick out their chicks. We will not hold chicks that are FCFS.

SEXING OUR CHICKS

This is the hottest topic as people explore the chicken world. We are seeing more and more people that live within cities / towns that have ordinances that do not allow roosters; Thus – we are seeing more and more people wanting strictly pullets.

Wanting just pullets is perfectly okay – but The Happy Homestead does not sell sexed chicks unless they are autosexing. All chicks from The Happy Homestead will be sold as straight run. If you are not able to take the risk of getting roosters – please looks for sexed chicks, consider an autosexing breed, or make a plan for any unwanted roosters.

Bantams: Bantams are sold at varying ages. Chicks will be sold according to the above terms. Pullets/ Cockerels & Hens/ Roosters will be sold as pairs unless otherwise noted. The Happy Homestead will NOT take back any unwanted roosters, so please make sure do research on the breed you are interested in to determine if the pair is a fit for you.
